The views are just incredible, even though the fell itself certainly isn’t one of the highest in the region. If you are planning the walk from the town centre, give yourself a good 3 to 4 hours, which allows for time to stop and admire the scenery.

One of the most popular things to do in Ambleside is to learn more about one of Cumbria’s most famous residents. Poet William Wordsworth once lived at Rydal Mount in Ambleside, whereby his former home has long since opened its doors to the public.

If you are planning on spending time out in the open, it’s always good to have a back-up plan. Especially considering the likes of storm Ciara are currently giving the Lake District something to be concerned about. However, at Zeffirelli’s cinema, you can enjoy a film and forget about the wind and the rain. What’s more, next door is an established jazz café and pizzeria, giving you further indoor entertainment for your day out in Ambleside.
