Spring Break in the Lake District

Spring Break in the Lake District

Are you thinking of an early holiday, then a spring break in the Lake District could be just what you’re after. The summer may be a while off, but there’s something special about Cumbria at the change of any season.

What is the Lake District like in Spring

Booking a Spring Break in the Lake District has many advantages, one being that is outside the main tourist season. With millions of visitors flocking to the Lakes throughout the year, it is, of course, the summer months that always prove the most popular. As such, March to early June can be the chance to escape the crowds.

It’s not just the chance to experience a more peaceful Lake District, but Spring really does bring the Cumbrian countryside to life. Quite literally in fact, with the native Herwick Lambs being born, as well as flowers coming into blossom. Whether it’s flower beds put in by the council, the gardens at our Windermere Tranquil Retreat or daffodils and bluebells growing in the wild.

What’s on in Spring in the Lake District

With a number of stately homes open all year round, their gardens are a site to be seen from the start of Spring. As we’ve already highlighted, flowers open up but there’s more to it than that. It’s a chance for visitors to see all the groundsmen’s hard work.

As for other events, during a Spring break in the Lake District, stop by one of the many country shows. There are also lots of weekly events such as farmers markets or annual food festivals such as the one taking place at Muncaster Castle in May.

If you’re into music, then Bowness Bay Blues festival takes place in Bowness-on-Windermere in the middle of May. As for the more sporty of you, the Windermere Marathon is set to take place on Sunday 19th May. After which, you will be relieved to know there’s a qualified masseur available at Windermere Beauty Treatments.

The month before, something less of a challenge but just as fun, is the huge Prom Art event. The arts and crafts fair in Grange Over Sands attracts art lovers from far and wide.

If your spring break in the Lake District is likely to be right at the end of the season, take part in the annual Light the Lakes. The charity walk starts at Brathay Hall in Ambleside is set to become the biggest yet. Entry costing between £5 and £15.

Whatever you decide to do in the Lake District this Spring, our Windermere Tranquil Retreat looks forward to your visit.
