Claife Heights in Windermere

Starting near our spa suites in Windermere and the wonderful Claife Heights overlooking the Lake itself. Heading from Sawrey, the cycle route crosses through Claife Heights towards Hawkshead before venturing into Grizedale Forest.

Walner Scar

This one starts at nearby Coniston and provides a workout popular among those already used to mountain biking in the Lake District. Although if you’re staying in Cumbria on a package break in the Lake District, there’s no reason why you can’t challenge yourself. As well as embracing the scenery, this route has it all. There’s an uphill climb and both road cycling and off-road sections, before reaching the downhill descent of Walner Scar road.

Borrowdale Bash

There are plenty more downhills as part of Borrowdale Bash, although these are offset against the number of uphill climbs too! Starting in Keswick, this 18 mile route covers Derwent Water, Cat Bells and Borrowdale Valley. As well as some famous Lake District attractions and locations, such as Honiston Slate Mines.

Silver Crag and Birk Fell

You couldn’t book a package break in the Lake District without exploring the Lakes. While you may well be staying at a spa suite in Windermere, take a half hour drive (with the bike on the roof rack) and top off at Ullswater. This mountain bike trail includes Silver Crag and Birk Fell, along with Silver Point and Boredale Hause. All of which include vantage points that will become familiar names during your holiday.

Windermere to Wray Castle
