The Lakes Alive 2018 Programme

The art event runs from 7th to 9th September. As for what’s on at Lakes Alive 2018, there’s a whole host of things to see and do in Kendal across the weekend.

Things kick off with a bang, quite literally! With over 80 drummers involved in “Thunder”, chances are you’ll be able to hear the performance from your Windermere hot tub!

Elsewhere, there are numerous installations occurring at Lakes Alive 2018. “Halo” is a series of sculptures, hidden among the trees of Fletcher Park. The installation is triggered by the motion of its visitors, creating an interactive exhibition.

Grizedale in Hawkshead will play home to 3 hand-crafted wooden megaphones. Another monumental feat is “Chorus” by Ray Lee, due to be set up in the impressive grounds of Kendal Castle. The sculptures are a series of machines, creating their own beautiful soundscape.

Laundrettes and Hairdressers in Kendal

Combining dance, theatre and visual artistry is Laundry XL. As the name suggests, this is all about the washing. Expect white lining that encompasses its audience, a literal whitewash and insight into the laundry world.

Another piece of the Lakes Alive 2018 programme also features a humble setting. An old-school hair salon provides the setting for “Voices from the Hood”. The intriguing location will have its audiences sitting under vintage hairdryers. Once seated, the covers are transformed into headphones, ready to take you back in time.

While you’re looking up at the stars in the private gardens at your Lake District spa suite, how about walking under them? Star Walks by Star Light will follow the night sky, taking you out into the Lake District countryside.
It’s not the only event taking place outdoors either. There are regular performances to watch during “Woodland”, where hourly stories will make you feel at one with your surroundings.

There are many more events on at Lakes Alive 2018. We’ve only taken some of our personal highlights. So while you’re planning your day out in Kendal, why not sit back in your Windermere hot tub, browsing the official website.
