5 Autumn Walks in the Lake District

There’s always something special about Autumn walks in the Lake District. The crunch of the freshly fallen leaves, the early mist across the water and even a bit of rain in the air can create some majestic rainbows.

So if you’re lucky enough to have booked a spa package break in Windermere this Autumn, then there are plenty of walks in the Lake District to choose from. Especially if you don’t mind braving the unpredictable British weather, after all, you can always warm up in the spa suite hot tub.

5 Autumn Walks in the Lake District

Panoramic Views from Loughrigg Fell

It may not be the most challenging of Autumn walks in the Lake District compared to some, but it’s worth every step. Ideal for those wishing to get out and about, without the fear of having to go climbing in adverse weather conditions. Its peak is a modest 335 meters, with fantastic views across Rydal Water, Grasmere and with your spa suites in Windermere in the distance.

Thirlmere Reservoir

If you prefer somewhere a little more reclusive, then ditch the car and go walking through Thirlmere Reservoir. It’s along the A591 which will take you between Grasmere and Keswick, as such many people just use the route as a drive through. After all, you can still take in the scenery from the road. However, with over 2,000 acres of larch and spruce trees, the Autumnal colours really bring Thirlmere Reservoir alive.

The Picturesque Tarn Hows

In contrast, you’re likely to find fellow holiday-makers taking Autumn walks in the Lake District at Tarn Hows. While this region is popular all year round, on a clear day the Autumn sun reflecting off the water is particularly magical.

Buttermere Lake and Haystacks Hill

This one is one great for the early risers and keen walkers. If you’re on a spa package break in the Lake District with plenty of energy, make the most of your time away. Allow a good 2 hours to walk around the Lake, which on a still morning will reflect the Autumn colours on the water as if it were a mirror image. If you fancy a detour along the way, take a hike up Haystacks Hill.

Lake Windermere and Orrest Head

It’s an obvious choice if you’re staying at our spa suites in Windermere. However, it wouldn’t be a holiday in the Lake District without mentioning Lake Winderemere. Whether it’s a short walk to the jetty or a longer stroll along the water’s edge, Lake Windermere has something for everyone. Alternatively, if you’re staying near Windermere Train Station, the foot of Orrest Head is just a few minutes away.
