About Muncaster Castle

Muncaster Castle is just an hour’s drive away from your Windermere spa retreat. As such it’s a beautiful journey, one that’s rewarded with the wonderful home of the Pennington family.

The ground has been owned by the Pennington family for over 800 years. While the building has evolved over the years, the Great Hall and pele tower date back to the 14th century. The tower having initially been built to help defend the English/Scottish border.

Although privately owned, the Grade I listed building is open to the public throughout the year. However, it’s always best to check the official website for further details.

Exploring the Lakes themselves is always the best way to discover the region. So while Lake Windermere may only be a stone’s throw from your spa suite, Muncaster overlooks the equally stunning River Esk.
