Great North Swim and Windermere Marathon

Two annual events in the Lake District that attract visitors from all over the world. After all, who wouldn’t want to enjoy a run through the Cumbrian countryside or a swim in the great outdoors?

That’s not to say either event are going to be easy, so if you are thinking of taking part make sure you sign up and start training.

The Great North Swim 2019 is on the weekend of the 7th June to 9th June. While there is a shorter distance for the less experienced lake swimmer, the 10km race is the one everybody wants to try and complete.

Windermere Marathon 19th May. Some of the top athletes in the world look to win one a marathon in one the country’s most beautiful settings. What’s more, if you’re looking to compete then book your package break in Windermere early. Our spa suites and hot tubs will be in high demand.

Country Fairs and Rural Shows

Some of the long-running annual events in the Lake District can be dated back over 100 years. Farmers have been bringing their cattle and produce to the likes of the Cumberland Show (19th May) and Coniston Country Fair every year.

Then there’s the Hawkshead Show, Blackcombe Country Fair and even the Kentmere Sheep show that attract the visitors.

Other shows give you the chance to enjoy some traditional Cumbrian Food. With food markets taking place on a monthly basis in the likes of Cartmel. While elsewhere more specialised events such as the Cumbria Sausage Festival is anticipated to attract huge crowds between 4th and 6th May.

Music Festival

Kendal Calling saw its biggest year ever in 2018 and while the line-up is yet to be announced, 25th to 28th July is going to be worth checking out.
